Why Marchward

Experience, with a clear responsibility to deliver

We bring together senior practitioners around an agreed piece of work. These are the principles behind our assessments, our client relationships and the teams we put in the field.

Our approach

Establish the requirement first

We establish what is needed before recommending expenditure. Our assessment gives you a baseline, a prioritised list of gaps and costed options for addressing them.

Build capability that outlasts us

We work with the people who will take responsibility for the capability once our involvement ends. Where staffing, authority or resources are missing, we raise that before recommending something you would struggle to sustain.

Experienced teams

We put together small teams of experienced practitioners whose skills fit the assignment. You know who is proposed, what they will do and who is accountable.

Our assessments explain the options and disclose any interest we may have in supplying the recommended work.

Why work with Marchward

We offer direct access to senior practitioners and build each team around the work required.

Direct access to the delivery lead
The senior practitioner who scopes the assignment remains responsible for delivery. You know who is accountable from the first conversation.
Operational experience
Twenty-one years of operational service, then thirteen advising governments. We have stood on the border, run the training and lived with the equipment.
A specialist network
We draw on a network built over three decades across military operations, policing, law and security technology. We identify the proposed practitioners before they deploy.
Proportionate teams and clear mobilisation plans
We keep the management structure small and agree a mobilisation schedule against the assignment, available personnel and necessary approvals.
Candid advice
We report what the evidence supports, including findings that challenge an existing decision or reduce the need for further work.
Continuity through delivery
Your named lead stays involved from scoping through delivery and final reporting, coordinating specialists where they are needed.

Working with primes and consultancies

We can join during the bid or take on an agreed package after award. In either case, we set out what we will deliver, how we will work with your team and where our responsibilities end.

  • We can contribute named senior practitioners, relevant regional experience and a clear assessment method to your bid. Our experience includes UK and US government programmes and work with commercial technology providers on detecting irregular border crossings.
  • We normally contract under English law and accept standard flow-down terms. Professional indemnity, public liability and employers’ liability cover is in place before work begins, with certificates available on request. We do not seek indemnity for our own negligence.
  • As a UK company, we remain subject to the Bribery Act 2010, UK sanctions and export control law. We include an OSJA-style human rights risk assessment in engagements involving police, military, intelligence or border institutions. Our work does not include an armed role.
  • We respect the relationship between you and your client. If we already work with a client you are bidding to, we disclose that before you share information and agree the arrangements in the teaming agreement.
  • You deal directly with the person responsible for the work. We can turn around CVs, availability and pricing within days, subject to the scope, and confirm vetting and clearance status on request.

Where we stand

We tell you what not to buy
The most useful finding in an assessment is often that a purchase is unnecessary, unlawful or impossible to sustain. We would rather lose the follow-on work than say otherwise.
Every set of options includes doing nothing
We state what happens if you do nothing, and we put it alongside the other options. Sometimes it is the right answer. It is always the benchmark the others have to beat.
The work belongs to you
Reports, data and working notes are your property in full. You may publish them without asking us.
We declare our interests
If a finding would favour something we could sell you, we say so in the text, so that you can discount it.
We do not name our clients
Confidentiality matters to the institutions we work for. We do not identify them, publish their findings, or use their names to win the next job. If you want a reference, ask, and we will seek their permission.
